Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20 1964 was a prominent American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first woman to hold the vice-president and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S history. As a member the Democratic Party, she was the former attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017 and was she was a United States senator representing California in 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland and graduated from Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. She began her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, before being recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003 she was elected as the city's district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010 and reelected in 2014. Harris was the junior member of the United States Senate from California from 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the first African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. In her time as a senator, she pushed for healthcare reform, federal descheduling of cannabis, a pathway for undocumented immigrants to become citizens, the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. Harris also backed progressive tax reform. Her pointed questioning of Trump officials during Senate hearings has earned her national attention, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
